OUR ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Last September I was joined by other US Airways employees at the New York Stock Exchange to ring the opening bell on the first day our new stock began trading. I was extremely excited about what the merger between America West and US Airways would mean for our airline and for our customers, and I felt good about the potential value we were creating for our shareholders.

It has certainly been a remarkable year, and although we’ve had some growing pains, our accomplishments have exceeded the expectations of many. Our employees are building an airline that they are proud to work for and that you, as our customers, will want to fly for years to come.

Some of the significant milestones our workforce of 35,000 has achieved over the last year including the following:

Posted profits in the first and second quarters of 2006.
Merged America West’s FlightFund and US Airways’ Dividend Miles to create the new critically acclaimed Dividend Miles frequent-flyer program.
Successfully launched the new, user-friendly usairways.com.
Combined operations at 35 of the 38 airports where America West and US Airways both had ticket counters and gate space. Only Washington Dulles, New Orleans, and Chicago O’Hare remain.
Integrated route system making it easy for customers to book travel across the new combined network consisting of more than 230 cities across North America, Europe, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
Introduced customer-friendly pricing structure and lower fares to nearly 80 East Coast markets.
Recalled 55 furloughed pilots and approximately 400 furloughed flight attendants.
Reached transition agreements with our pilot, flight-attendant, and customer-service unions.
Dedicated three of four “throwback livery” aircraft painted in the traditional colors of PSA, Piedmont, and Allegheny, and painted 78 mainline aircraft in our new paint scheme.

There is still a lot of work to be done in the coming year. Most notably, we will be moving to a single operating certificate and a single reservation system. So while change will continue, the one constant will be our commitment to running a great airline and taking care of our customers.

As we celebrate our one-year anniversary as the new US Airways, here’s to a second year that will be even more successful than our first. On behalf of all of my coworkers, thanks for flying with the new US Airways.
