A good meal doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Order up at one of these local favorites, ranked by AOL CityGuide as Pittsburgh’s top five Best Cheap Eats.

1. The Original Hot Dog Shop

Known to locals as “The O,” this eatery has been an institution in the Oakland neighborhood since 1960. In addition to the dogs, the award-winning fries are a must-try, but bring a hearty appetite: A small order is big enough for two people to share.

2. Armstrong’s

Located in Caste Village in Whitehall, Armstrong’s is a favorite among families looking to get the most for their money. Lasagna and chicken parmigiana top the menu, and the portions are huge. Be prepared for a wait, especially during peak weekend hours.

3. Vincent’s Pizza Park

It might not be known for atmosphere or service, but Vincent’s is a must-visit for pies with thick, fluffy crusts and tons of cheese. And a small size here is as big as a large at other places.

4. Bites & Brews

Patrons can design their own pizza or sandwich by checking menu bubbles that correspond with their favorite toppings; there are 20 choices for pizza and more than 40 for sandwiches. More than 60 kinds of beer are also available.
