This month, relive a historic night at the annual Boston Tea Party reenactment at Old South Meeting House. The event commemorates the night of December 16, 1773, when 5,000 colonists rejected Britain’s exorbitant tax. The Tea Party Players portray famous faces like Paul Revere and Samuel Adams. Hundreds of guests fill the meeting house and are encouraged to participate by arguing a position — loyalist or patriot. Some audience members are given cards to read aloud the thoughts of original participants. This year, a theatrical storytelling incorporating puppets and fife and drum music will re-create the dumping of the tea into the harbor. The event is set for December 14. For info or to get tickets, call 617.482.6439 or visit oldsouthmeetinghouse.org.

If you miss the performance, you can learn about American history at Old South anytime. The Voices of Protest exhibit explores the building’s past with rare artifacts and lifelike figures. The audio exhibit If These Walls Could Speak takes guests back in time to historic events, from the British occupation during the Revolutionary War to the last-minute rescue of the meeting house from the wrecking ball.
