Chocolate shavings swirled with muddled mint in chocolate-flavored vodka: It’s called a Cocojito, and it’s just one of the surprises at Co Co. Sala, D.C.’s newest shrine to chocolate. The eatery offers an assortment of small plates, including crab cakes with a chipotle-chocolate-tomato glaze and macaroni and cheese garnished with a piece of crisp, lean bacon dipped in chocolate. Because the chosen chocolate is just right — dark and not too sweet — it makes for a surprisingly delicious combination. Follow it up with a multi-course dessert in one of four themes: Passage to India, Italian Voyage, Aztec Experience, and Childhood Favorites. Petite servings arrive one after another, and almost everything is made in-house.

Although the focus is sweet, the vibe is sexy. The decor is predominantly chocolate brown and rich red, with open flame accents. Display cases contain blown and pulled sugar sculptures created by one of the owners.
